Before spiral and Led bulbs there were incandescent, florescent, and mercury vapor.
And if someone told you way back then that a single bulb with the approximate equivalent of 70 watts would cost more than a DvD player, you would have thought that they were not the brightest bulb in the box, a little dim or dimwitted.
If you own a parrot and one of these bulbs and you're in your thirties, there is a good chance that the parrot will be basking in this bulbs light while you are laying horizontal 72 inches under your tomb stone. They may both out live you, so don't forget to will your parrot and light bulbs to someone special.
