Before MapQuest: How We Got Hopelessly Lost on the Dirt Roads

Look at this old timeless classic. It kind of resembles the modern day UPS truck except the UPS trucks are enclosed. Back then when this vechicle was in use there were less streets, roads and highways but you could still easily get lost.

Driving directions back then came from exactly two places: a paper map that refused to fold back up, or a "yap" (someone's mouth). If you were behind the wheel, your strategy for finding your way usually involved three desperate stages:

1. The Corner Loiterer: You'd pull over and ask a random pedestrian standing on the street corner—assuming they looked at least 51% trustworthy and possessed a basic understanding of north vs. south.

2. The Gas Station Gamble: If that failed, you'd pull into a filling station. The teenager working the pump was asked for directions forty times a day, so you just prayed they weren't guessing to get you out of their hair.

3. The Last Resort Farmhouse: If you hit the rural backroads, you had to pull the ultimate move of shame. You’d sheepishly walk past actual sheep, dodge a few farm dogs, knock on a stranger's front door, and swallow your pride to admit you were lost.

The best part about knocking on those doors? It instantly makes you think of all those classic farmer’s daughter jokes.

Of which, we are going to tell absolutely none. Keep it classy.

So this horse walks into a bar because he was lost, because he didn't use MapQuest.

And he walks up to the bar, and the bartender says, "Hay buddy,, why the long face."

MapQuest a sign of the times

Some businesses know how to attract attention by utilizing a good sign
Good signs are ones that are memorable, or grab your eyes with flamboyant color and or lighting.
This sign is so big that it when it changes color its almost like the whole building is changing color.
It has good colors, it catches your eye and its attractive.

Except we no longer have the picture so is it worth posting the dialogue without the picture?

We say yes because then you have to use your vivid imagination.

I knew an old German guy in Canada who would never watch a hockey game he would only listen to them on the radio. He said it was way more entertaining that way, because you had to use your imagination.

I never tried it unless i was driving somewhere and didn't want to miss what happened.

I never realized it until now that his radio was out in the garage, away from his spouse...Hmmmm...

On a totally different subject we are going to talk about "swipe". Swipe on a touch screen is placing your finger on a words beginning letter then moving your finger rapidly over the top of the rest of the letters in the word that you are spelling in order to enter text onto a touch screen such as a phone or tablet.


When using Swype you only have to come close to touching all of the letters that are in the word you are entering or typing. As long as you come relatively close to most of the letters in the word will print.

However a lot of times its just comical the words that swipe will spell.
